THE MAG

SEE SECTION

I PONDER THE SCAR;
THE DEEP, WRINKLED SKIN
LEFT HANGING
YEARS LATER.
DEEP INCISION
HORIZONTAL
TO MY WAIST.
SWOLLEN WITH TWINS
I WENT UNDER.
AWOKE HOURS LATER
IN ICU.
YES...I SEE YOU!
AND YOU!
AND MY BATTLE SCAR
REMAINS--
 WRINKLED.
NO ONE THERE
TO RATCHET,
TO TIGHTEN,
TO MODIFY.

ALTERED ,
BUT NOT
WHERE IT
COUNTS.

    1. Yes...I guess this photo reminded me a gaping wound and someone trying to get it to close, which in turn took me to my C-section. And I love to play around with words because they can mean something different just by spelling them differently. It was a "C"esarian Section" but what you "see" is what is left behind to deal with...the scar tissue, the babies that you actually get to see for the first time, etc. Thanks for the comment.

  3. It's a good job we have clothes! I liked that you were able to use this format to express your frustration about the scar tissue. Your poem is so focused and direct. I really enjoyed your focus on this one. Lovely work, Teri. Thanks for sharing.
