MY GARDEN

TO MY GARDEN.

I LOVE OLD FASHIONED THINGS, LIKE WINDOW BOXES.

AND THE DEEP CENTER OF A POPPY WHEN IT STARTS TO BUD.

RED IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE COLORS, EVEN IN THE GARDEN.

AND PANSIES? ANY OF YOU WHO KNOW ME WELL, KNOW THAT I LOVE PANSIES. PANSIES ARE FOR THOUGHTS.

I PULLED B'S OLD WORK BOOTS OUT OF THE GARBAGE CAN AND TURNED THEM INTO A PLANTER FOR THIS SUCCULENT YEARS AGO. IT JUST KEEP FLOURISHING AND IS TRAILING OVER THE BACK SIDE OF THE CHAIR. THE CHAIR I FOUND ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ONE DAY. IT HAD BEEN DISCARDED AND WAS BADLY BURNED BUT I LOVED THE POSSIBILITIES. NOT EVERYTHING HAS TO HAVE A "PRETTY FACE", RIGHT? SO, IT SITS ON THE DECK OUTSIDE OF THE FRONT DOOR AND I ADD THINGS OCCASIONALLY TO IT: ROCKS THAT REMIND ME OF EGGS; HEART-SHAPED ROCKS THAT FIND THEIR WAY TO ME; A PIECE OF WOOD THAT LOOKS LIKE A WING; THERE'S EVEN A PIECE OF WOOD THAT HAS A CARVED WOODEN FACE. SOME PEOPLE WOULD WALK RIGHT PAST THIS KIND OF STUFF, BUT FOR ME: THIS IS THE KIND OF STUFF THAT MAKES ME HAPPY. IT MAKES ME HAPPY TO SEE THIS STUFF EACH DAY WHEN I WALK OUTSIDE. IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO ME. LIKE I'VE SAID MANY TIMES BEFORE: I DON'T NEED ALL THE LATEST CLOTHES FROM DESIGNER STORES. OR PURSES THAT COST HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. (I AM MUCH HAPPIER MAKING MY OWN AND HAVING SOMETHING UNIQUE THAT ISN'T JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE.) SOME MIGHT SAY "NOT FOR ME". BUT GIVE ME THE DISCARDED, THE CHIPPED, THE RUSTED AND I AM IN HEAVEN. OH...AND SOME FLOWERS!

  1. I'm with you, Teri. And I love the new header, the symmetry of the rows is fascinating.

  2. Teri...I really think you and I are kindred spirits...I too love to collect pieces from nature to add to my collection of things I love. "Things" likes purses, fancy clothes, cars, hold no meaning for me...but oh...hand me a rock with a face in it, or a few moments to watch crazed birds eating berries off the serviceberry bush and flying away in an intoxicated swoosh...now that's what I love.
    Priceless.
    Your arrangement is totally awesome.

    Enjoy your weekend.
    love to you. xa

  5. Teri, I love the old boot, the chair, the rocks and your welcome sign! I have a rock at our kitchen door that I picked up many years ago on a river shore. The shape looks like a boat. I used it as a paper weight at our old house and it's still with me.

Pretty flowers to add some colour; I'm struggling to find something this time of year. I still have some Mexican sage growing, I'll go out and pick some of that. Cheers!

  8. Ahh, a girl after my own heart. A friend says I'm like Henny Penny, always gathering up sticks. They might be just sticks and stones to her, to me they are treasures, and I remember where I found each one. And half the time I can't remember what day it is!

I simply love your chair and assorted treasures!

  9. Same for me! I love that kind of stuff in my home and in my garden. Everyone else seems to be amazed at what I put together using only thrift store finds or junk someone was throwing away. I just feel right at home among all my treasures.
