"WHAT I SEE IN NATURE IS A MAGNIFICENT STRUCTURE THAT WE CAN COMPREHEND ONLY VERY IMPERFECTLY, AND THAT MUST FILL A THINKING PERSON WITH A FEELING OF HUMILITY. THIS IS A GENUINELY RELIGIOUS FEELING THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MYSTICISM."
This is the first time I have ever seen Donner Lake shrouded in a layer of clouds. It made me pull over at the first spot and snap a picture.
Can you imagine the effort that went into making this bridge on sheer granite cliffs? The train runs through the Sierras at this point
and goes through these snow sheds at this point. All of this is sitting right over Donner Lake. Imagine what it is like covered in snow and how the Donner party must have felt when they first encountered it that fateful winter.
